Shrewsbury House School Trust is delighted to announce that it is now a founding member of the St Paul’s School Group, a partnership of leading not-for-profit schools committed to delivering exceptional education. This exciting collaboration builds on our long-standing relationship with St Paul’s School, one of the UK’s leading boys’ schools, alongside Durston House School, Ealing. The Group will support the creation of a Research Centre for the Education of Boys, sharing evidence-based teaching practices while ensuring each school keeps its unique identity, leadership and ethos.

This partnership enhances opportunities for both boys and girls, giving pupils access to expanded resources, expertise, and experiences. They will learn in an environment shaped by the highest academic expectations, while developing confidence, kindness and resilience. International Womens Day

 International Women's Day 2026

At Shrewsbury House we are guided by our values and speak openly about inequalities that exist in society, reflecting on what each of us can do now and in the future to create a more equal world. We explored this topic with pupils from Epsom College. They led us through an informative presentation about key figures in history who have shaped our world and those who went unrecognised based on their gender. This year’s IWD theme, ‘Give to Gain’, resonated throughout the assembly hall. The core message was clear: when we give our support, advocacy and respect to others, the entire community thrives. Our visitors eloquently shared practical ways for SHS pupils to champion gender equality and stay actively engaged with this vital global conversation.

World Book Day

What an amazing World Book Day we have had! It was wonderful to see such an array of costumes, from Highway Rats to wizards, via Paddington and dinosaurs! Not forgetting the Younger Years staff, who appeared as a whole host of Where’s Wally characters for the boys to find.

The Younger Years finished their World Book Day celebrations with a parade in the sunshine, showcasing their team spirit and love of reading. As an extra special treat, Reception and Year 1 paired up with some of the Year 8 boys to share a story together in the afternoon. Happy World Book Day!

SHS Y1 and Y2 Temple Visit

Y1 and Y2 of Shrewsbury House, a prep school in Surbiton, enjoyed a peaceful and fascinating visit to The Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon. The monks gave a warm welcome and shared stories about temple life, important Buddhist symbols and key teachings. The boys especially loved the short mindfulness and meditation session, which everyone found wonderfully calming, and they impressed the monks with their thoughtful questions! Afterwards, there was an opportunity to explore the beautiful temple grounds and enjoy snacks together in the sunshine. It was a memorable introduction to Buddhism that supported learning in RE over the last half-term.

Wetlands Spring Trip

Having spent their previous Discovery Programme lessons learning about the history of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT), the life of WWT founder Sir Peter Scott, and the publication of 'Lost Words' by Robert MacFarlane, some of our pupils visited the WWT London Wetlands Centre to choose a 'Lost Word' and a species that they would like to write a poem about.

These poems - based on their first hand experience of the species at the Centre, and the notes made during their visit - will be written during their forthcoming Discovery Programme lessons.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Boys in our senior years at SHS engaged in thoughtful discussion about Holocaust Memorial Day this week, which this year takes the theme of ‘Bridging Generations’. Engaging actively in the past enables us to listen, learn and carry lessons forward, building a bridge between history and hope. As always, the boys were respectful and thoughtful during the discussions.

Music in Assembly

Younger Years have been singing about the joys of Spring this week! We are starting to prepare for our Easter performance on the 13th March and are already thinking about the signs of a new season - blooming flowers, singing birds and leaping lambs. Younger Years were in fine voice and enjoyed adding actions to the words.
